I have had a busy week, Last week OH was away tripping about with work. So my training was bad very very bad, I got on the trainer about 2 times, no gym, 2 swims and no running bad bad week. I did do another little tri on Saturday morning thou I forgot my bike shoes and did the bike leg in my runners I was happy with it and here are my splits for Saturday
Swim 500mtrs 10.53mins (slower then last week :( )
Bike 14km - 37.12mins ( well I had to improve as I know the course now)
Run 4.5km - 25.42mins (15sec better :-) )
Total 1hr 13.47mins (i took about 3 and a bit minutes (almost 4 minutes) off my total)
So getting better, Sunday I did an open water swim + training in my wetsuit as the water temp is still freezing 17 degree on Sunday and it felt way colder then that. I did a 2km swim in the creek. Saw a stingray (was shitting myself) and try not to think about sharks. Took me a lot longer then I was hoping because each time a got to the other side of the creek I had to stop and talk myself into swimming back to the other side again.
Today is my rest day but I am swapping it out for friday as I think its better for my little tri's on Saturday morning if I rest Friday.
This week is the last week of training before rest week and then the Gold Coast Tri (sprint for me ) Iron man for Mel!!
Mel? Just a question - The water temp is still cold as here, You are planning on a wetsuit? I know that we don't find out the ruling till the 2nd Oct but I just wanted to know if it is a good idea to still train in one. I do two training session a week with out one and have been doing my open water swim in my (CRAP) wet suit. Do you think that is the way to do it?

Reading about the cold water.... SO glad that tri season doesn't start here till like November!
ReplyDeleteYes yes yes - I'm trying to swim every second day in the openwater (or at least the sea baths) in my wetsuit even if its just for 10-15mins. The water is freezing down here as well and I would suspect all races for HIM will be wetsuit. The bouyancy you get from the wetsuit is awesome but it just takes a little getting used to having your shoulders constricted by a wetsuit. The swim at GC won't be tidal (not like a beach swim) but could get a bit choppy depending on the wind. Get as much practice in as you can would be my tip :)
